Hemangioma

What is Hemangioma?

Hemangioma are benign tumors connected to the circulatory system and filled with blood. It’s a term often used for any vascular anomaly.

Treatment of Hemangioma

Dr. Vanek and his staff use the Sciton® BBL™ to treat the appearance of superficial hemangiomas. The laser uses a specific wavelength of light that is absorbed by oxyhemoglobin found within the blood vessels seen through the skin. As the energy of the laser is absorbed by the oxyhemoglobin, the surrounding cells stimulate the vessel to reduce or stop flow within, reducing the appearance of the hemangioma. This is not a treatment for deep portions of a hemangioma. Dr. Vanek will review with you if you need more than one laser wavelength to treat larger vascular malformations, when you have your consultation.
